Education

My artistic journey is a celebration and exploration of the multifaceted personal experiences of black girlhood and womanhood. Using symbols, colors, and textures to create visual narratives designed to capture the essence, strength, and resilience of black women and girls amidst the complexities of our existence.
Growing up, I was profoundly influenced by the richness of black culture, specifically Gullah Geechee culture, yet acutely aware of the social complexities and injustices faced by black women and girls. Through my art, I seek to amplify the voices of black women, reclaim our narratives, and celebrate our beauty and diversity by amplifying the novelty of our shared experiences through a lens of cultural exploration.
Every stroke of my brush is placed with intentionality, reflecting the intricacies of our experiences - from the joyous moments of sisterhood and self-discovery to the struggles against systemic oppression and societal expectations. I use transparency as a tool to explore how the things from the past and around us contribute to who we are. I draw inspiration from the vibrant hues of our culture, the power of our history, and the impact of community.
My work is an ode to the resilience and unwavering spirit inherited from our ancestors. Similarly, it is a tribute to the sacrifices we have made for ourselves and our community. Those same sacrifices have sculpted what we know as black culture and shaped the experiences that highlight our childhoods.
I seek to create a space for dialogue, reflection, and empowerment. I urge viewers to confront their preconceptions, challenge societal norms, and join me in celebrating the beauty and complexity of our communal story. All women deserve to be seen, heard, and celebrated
